At the usual closing time, a locksmith key custodian is responsible for locking external doors; however, in small units, a permanent departmental employee may be assigned this responsibility. Also, it is the responsibility of departmental personnel to lock all interior doors that open into hallways.

When an edifice is used after hours by a Hampstead Locksmith employee, or an individual who has been issued a edifice Use Permit, that person is responsible, upon inward bound and leaving, for locking both the centre doors (opening into antechambers) and the peripheral doors.
